Jimbaran Bay faces west, which makes it one of the best places in south Bali to watch the sun go down over the ocean. Pair it with a grilled seafood dinner on the sand and you have one of the most memorable evenings of your trip. Here is when the sun sets, when to arrive and which months give you the best chance of a clear sky.
What time is sunset in Jimbaran?
Bali is close to the equator, so sunset only moves by about 40 minutes across the whole year. Approximate times in Jimbaran:
| Months | Approximate sunset | Arrive by |
|---|---|---|
| December to March | 6:30 pm to 6:45 pm | 5:45 pm |
| April to May | 6:10 pm to 6:25 pm | 5:30 pm |
| June to September | 6:10 pm to 6:25 pm | 5:30 pm |
| October to November | 6:10 pm to 6:20 pm | 5:30 pm |
Times shift by a few minutes within each month, so check a weather app on the day. The sky usually keeps its colour for 15 to 20 minutes after the sun disappears.
When to arrive
Aim to be seated 45 minutes before sunset. That gives you time to settle in, order a drink and watch the light turn golden while your seafood is on the grill. Tables closest to the water are the first to go, especially in high season. If you book ahead, tell us your arrival time and we will pass it on to the restaurant.
Best season for a Jimbaran sunset
Dry season: April to October
The most reliable months for clear skies and calm evenings. July and August are also the busiest months on the beach, so reserve your table in advance.
Wet season: November to March
Rain usually comes in heavy bursts rather than all day, and clouds after a storm can produce some of the most dramatic sunsets of the year. Keep your plans flexible: if the afternoon looks stormy, message us and we can help you move your booking to another evening. The Christmas and New Year period is peak season despite the rain.
Tips for sunset photos
- Walk down to the waterline just before the sun touches the horizon. The wet sand reflects the sky.
- Look north along the bay: planes landing at Bali’s airport cross the evening sky behind the beach.
- Shoot the table candles and lanterns after sunset, when the sky turns deep blue.
- Leave your phone for a few minutes. The best part is simply watching it.
Plan your sunset dinner

Evening traffic can be slow, so check how to get to Jimbaran Bay and leave early enough to make the sunset. Want to see the Kecak fire dance as well? Frequently asked questions
Can you see the sunset from every table?
The bay faces west, so tables on the sand all look towards the sunset. Front-row tables by the water have the clearest view, which is why arriving early matters.
What if it rains?
Showers in Bali often pass within an hour. If the weather looks bad, contact us on WhatsApp before your booking and we will help you choose a better evening.
Is it worth staying after sunset?
Yes. Once it is dark the beach is lit by candles and lanterns, and it is cooler and more relaxed. We are open until 11pm.
